Vapers Everywhere Are “Downgrading” to Small Pod Systems
It’s time for a frank discussion of the pros and cons of pod systems and other small vaping devices. In this article, we’re not going to discuss pod systems such as the JUUL and how they relate to new vapers. If you’re a new vaper, you already know that the JUUL is great because there’s a three-in-four chance that it’s what you’re using. In this article, though, we’re speaking to experienced vapers. Between the JUUL and the sub-ohm device you’re probably using right now, there’s a wide array of pod systems and other small vaping devices – and experienced vapers are “downgrading” to those devices by the thousands.
Reading this article, you’re going to learn:
- Why a pod system or other small vaping device might appeal to a vaper currently using a larger device
- What the pros and cons of today’s small vaping devices are
- How a pod system might fit within your vaping routine
Let’s begin!
What Are Pod Vaping Systems?
A pod system is any vaping device in which the e-liquid tank is a replaceable plastic pod. If you used a cigalike when you started vaping, you can think of the pod as the modern equivalent of the old twist-on cigalike cartridges. There are several differences, though, between modern pod systems and the cigalikes of the past.
- Pod systems don’t mimic the appearance of tobacco cigarettes.
- Pod systems hold substantially more e-liquid than cigalike cartridges.
- Pod systems have markedly better battery life than cigalikes.
- Many pod systems have refillable pods that you can use many times.
- Some pod systems have replaceable atomizer coils.
When we discuss the benefits of pod vaping systems in this article, we’re talking about open, refillable systems rather than closed systems like the JUUL. While closed systems have many benefits for new vapers, open systems are of greater interest to those who already vape.
Will I Get Less Nicotine With a Pod Vaping System?
When you consider whether a pod vaping system is the right choice for you, keep in mind that nicotine absorption is a function of both the vapor production of your device and the nicotine strength of your e-liquid. If you switch to a smaller vaping device, you can get the same level of satisfaction that you currently enjoy simply by using an e-liquid with a higher nicotine strength. The nicotine salt e-liquids now on the shelves at virtually every vape shop are formulated to provide the best possible experience with smaller vaping devices. Nicotine salt e-liquids usually start at strengths around 20-25 mg, and that’s a good starting point if you’re switching from a direct-to-lung sub-ohm setup to a mouth-to-lung pod vaping system.
Why Should I Switch to a Pod Vaping System?
You should switch to a pod system because you’re spending way too much on e-liquid and replacement coils. Do you use a sub-ohm vaping setup with huge vapor production? Do you love sweet e-liquids? If you answered “yes” to both of those questions, you deal constantly with coil gunk. If you go through enough e-liquid, you probably don’t even get a full day’s use out of a coil before the burned taste of coil gunk becomes unbearable. Unless you build your own coils – and many people simply don’t want to deal with that headache – you may actually be spending more to vape than you would spend on cigarettes. Sure, it’s all in the name of better health, but no one ever switched to vaping with the goal of spending more on nicotine. If you switch to a pod system, you’ll spend less on e-liquid. You’ll also spend less on coils because the rate at which coil gunk forms depends largely on how much e-liquid you use.
There’s another major potential benefit to switching to a pod system. How much e-liquid are you using right now? Have you ever considered the possibility that you’re only chain vaping to make up for the fact that your low-nicotine e-liquid doesn’t deliver a satisfying throat hit? If you switch to a vaping setup that provides throat hit, you may find your vaping experience infinitely more satisfying.
Why Shouldn’t I Switch to a Pod Vaping System?
You shouldn’t switch to a pod vaping system if generating your own weather systems is a large part of what makes vaping enjoyable for you. Huge vapor production isn’t part of the job description for pod vaping systems. If it were, there’d be no reason to use a pod system rather than the sub-ohm device and tank you’re already using. Using a pod vaping system is all about reducing the cost of vaping, enjoying a more discreet vape that doesn’t fill a room with fog and deriving satisfaction that comes more from throat hit and flavor than from huge, airy clouds.
The second potential drawback of pod vaping systems is the fact that they store e-liquid in plastic. If you use a sub-ohm vaping system now, there’s a good chance that you’re using a glass tank. Glass doesn’t interact chemically with e-liquid, and it helps to ensure that you enjoy the purest flavor possible when vaping. Yes, most e-liquid ships in plastic bottles, but you’re storing your e-liquid in glass when you apply heat to it. If you switch to a vaping system with plastic pods, you may notice a difference in the way your e-liquid tastes. Most people don’t find the flavor of vaping with a pod system off-putting. If they did, pod systems wouldn’t be as popular as they are. Taste, however, is subjective.
Which Pod System Should I Buy?
At Triple 7 Vaping, we’ve noticed that the Aspire Breeze 2 has been very popular among existing vapers. We believe it’s because the Breeze 2 offers both the simplicity of a pod system and the flexibility that experienced vapers demand. With multiple coil resistances available, the Aspire Breeze 2 adapts itself easily for a variety of vaping styles and e-liquid preferences. The Breeze 2 also offers truly massive e-liquid capacity and battery life compared to most other pod systems.
